Question from My Middle Sister
I’m writing on my new blog every day for thirty days straight. This is the twentieth one. I asked my family and friends for questions about my career that I could answer during these thirty days. Today I’m answering questions eight and nine.
Today I answer questions from my sister Jennifer. I have three sisters - Jenn’s the middle one who lives in Boston with her two kids. Dr. Jennifer holds her doctorate in US History from Georgetown University. She completed that degree after she had her two kids. I’ve got some major respect for this sis. We share a distance from our hometown San Antonio and our sense of humor. As a kid, I remember Jennifer teaching me how to play the piano after I said I wanted to learn – and that always stuck with me. It’s like she loves me or something. Sisters.
From my East-coast blood:From one out-of-stater to another: what is the best and worst thing about living in Los Angeles? The greatest thing about living in Los Angeles is the variety available to each and every Angeleno. Even growing up in cities as big as San Antonio and Austin, I can’t come close to comparing them to Los Angeles. I mean if you have an idea that you want to do something, you can most likely do it in Los Angeles. Los Angeles can support almost any kind of lifestyle that you could imagine leading. Every culture, sport, and hobby is not only supported but most likely has a big community. It makes for some fun weekends. Also with the landscape – beaches and mountains at reaching distance – and the weather being so comfortable, it’s a hard place to knock. That being said, I miss front lawns. I miss having the space to have a front lawn. I’m going to reference the TV show Longmire which my friends could tell you isn’t uncommon right now - I really miss wide-open spaces. Sheriff Longmire lives in Durant, Wyoming on one of the most spectacular pieces of land I’ve ever seen. Ever since watching Longmire I would love to life on a “piece of land.” I don’t think most of us in Los Angeles even remember what elbow room feels like. Also, traffic isn’t the best, but I don’t view that as a negative anymore. I’ve adapted and listen to podcasts now. (I will recommend the Tim Ferris Show podcast for the second post in a row.)Do you think you'd ever choose to live there if it were not for your career? If I didn’t have to consider all the amazing friends that I’ve made out here who I consider family - I might not. I love Los Angeles but don’t see myself attached to any one city. I can see myself settling down – but Los Angeles is just one city in the world, and I’d love to live in a variety of cities in the US and abroad. I’d love to live in a smaller city in a foreign country, or maybe even in Wyoming. I’m not saying that I want to become Sheriff Longmire, but maybe I want to become Sheriff Longmire. All of this being said - I'm perfectly content here, and as an actor, I see myself living here for the foreseeable future.
Seriously though, guys. Longmire.
